Just a little bit cute HOOT!

I love Owls and I found these slippers over at Etsy, well the pattern is for sale anyway.  I thought they were just a little bit too cute to pass by and thinking I could make a pair to add to Lilys shoe collection.

Too cute Terrariums

As  I look around the house I realise there are no house plants (after the subsequent earthquakes it seemed pointless to keep picking them up off the floor and replacing them yet again) but I have decided it would be nice to have some greenery around the house once again.  I have seen a few terrariums pop up here and there and thought it would be a cute way of having something green inside, I will just have to make sure I use a plastic container instead of glass in case of any future wobbles that might occur.  Here are some cute ones I found in my travels and the instructions from either mygreenaustralia or National Geographic (love the gnome he's just a little bit too cute for words!)

One Year On........The rebuild

As the days get closer to the anniversary of the Feb 22nd earthquake, the media reports get a bit overwhelming about all the horrible things that happened that day, I feel as we all cope in our different ways, it is a timely reminder for us to remember or to celebrate something good and quite frankly it is hard some days, to think of anything good that has come out of it.  We all wait patiently and then impatiently as time drags on for EQC/Insurance companies to get to the stage where they can fix our houses/roads/streets/amenities, after a year of waiting and upheaval and deciding whether or not our land is green, red, blue or bloody multi coloured with spots! And then the rumbles keep coming to constantly remind us what we have lost and what we could lose. However recently I found something that made me smile a little and of course was just a little bit cute..........
I went into the Central City a few weeks ago with admittingly a heavy heart to see the new Re:START project in Cashel Mall and as sad as I was to see buildings around it that were still broken it was nice to see something new and exciting that had taken shape.  If you havent seen it yet check out the website to give you a bit of an idea.

I found Johnsons Grocers which is a just a little bit cute and bought some yummy things, so many yummy things!  If you havent tried Jaffa cakes you should! and I also fell in love with Toi Toi all over again, they had the cutest little wooden Cathedral in the window, they are always the place I go to for something Kiwiana if a friend goes to live overseas.  Our young friends got married in November and had some wedding photos taken in the new City Mall and they have kindly given  me permission to share a few of  them.  While its not the Christchurch we remember it's something we could definately learn to love, a nice bright vibrant city centre buzzing with lots of activity.  It will be interesting to see the rest of the city rebuild unfold.

Paul Tatterson was the Photographer and he did an amazing job, the rest of the photos capture all the little details and moments as well as the big ones of course.  Check out his website here: http://www.paultatterson.com/

Super cute Succulents

As Summer winds down (not that it really wound up) my planter pots are looking a bit sad and I think its time to go back to planting some succulents, as they are so easy care and dont need a lot of watering (which is great because I'm not that good at remembering to water them). I find they are easy to care for in the winter as quite hardy. I found some cute ways to plant them and so easy to make, if you head on over to: http://tipnut.com/ideas-succulents/ They have instructions or where to find instructions on how to make the ideas posted here.  I quite like the chair idea, just a little bit cute!

Happy Creating!

I heart wall hearts x

I have seen a few of these wall hearts around and about and in my recent copy of OHbaby! magazine I found the instructions to make one, one of my crafty projects next on the list (that seems to get longer and longer!) Its always nice to display your photos instead of them sitting on the hard drive waiting to be loved.
OHbaby! is like Kidspot and has a wealth of information about all things baby, check them out:
http://www.ohbaby.co.nz/

Wall heart

Create a mile of smiles on your wall with all your best snaps in one place - no photo frames required.

We all "heart" our families but despite the best of intentions, photos inevitably end up on the hard drive, unprinted and out of sight, or in a box collecting dust before they end up in an album.
Here's a neat idea to get those photos out on show where they deserve to be. It's stylish, easy and, best of all, lets the family share memories of special times together. As an added bonus it's easy to update the images as your kids get older.
The hardest thing is picking the first 57 photos to use because your kids are just so darn cute!

You will need:
  • 57 15 x 10cm horizontal snaps of your family
  • blue tack or double-sided tape
  • a ruler or tape measure
  • a pencil

How to make:
To start you need to mark where you want the middle of your heart to be, and mark where you want the top of the heart to be, using your ruler and pencil. The widest row is row three, with two rows sitting above it, so work out your central point, put a photo there, and work outwards - four photos on either side. There are 11 rows of photos in your wall heart. Using 15 x 10cm prints our heart was 115cm high, and 138cm wide at its widest point (allowing a 3mm gap between each).

Tips for your wall heart
  • Transition from darker to lighter prints across the heart.
  • Vary the images so you use some close-ups and some wide shots.
  • Consider the colour of the wall when selecting your images.

Etsy love

findsEtsy sends me a daily email to be honest sometimes I read it sometimes I dont.  Today I read it and loved the Inspired by London segment that led me to a Tribute to Britishness by Simran Nagra.  Love love the 'KEEP CALM AND DRINK TEA' sign and the London street signs are just a little bit cute!
I look on Etsy when I can't find what I'm looking for in NZ, I bought a few things for our wedding from here and Lilys wall decal for her bedroom (which will no doubt be a future post!)  While the US dollar is so high its a good time to buy from here as long as delivery is relatively cheap.

My first Pinterest Board

So with some help from Crystal over at The Weekend Homemaker and my own IT Support (Matt) at home I have discovered how to 'screen shot' something, so I bring you my first Pinterest Board - Enjoy!

PINTEREST

I have discovered the new world of Pinterest which you may have seen crop up on Facebook from time to time, and have made my first story board 'When a cupcake is not a cupcake' which is of course a little bit cute.  It is quite an overwhelming world to begin with but Pinterest has a help center to assist you through the process starting with Pinning 101, and if I can navigate my way around so can you (just have a bit of patience and a few deep breaths). It is a great idea to be able to create storyboards of the things you love, I wish I had been able to do this when I was planning my wedding, it would have made life so much easier! Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to have a look around as it can be very time consuming, like when you discovered Facebook for the first time! I cant post the board to my blog so click on this link http://pinterest.com/rachiej25/just-a-little-bit-cute-when-a-cupcake-is-not-a-cup/  and it should take you on over or alternatively click on the 'Follow me on Pinterest' button and it should take you there.
Also if you get stuck and Pinterest cant help, check out The Weekend Homemaker, Crystal has the answers!  http://theweekendhomemaker.com/pinterest-faqs
Happy pinning!

Things to do and see in Christchurch

Last weekend we wanted to get out and about and not hit the mall so we ended up spending an afternoon in Rangiora on Friday and went to lunch at Oxford on Sunday ( at Jo Seagers of course)They both have great little gift shops if you like finding something a little bit cute and vintage, in Rangiora I went into Cream & Clover I found some more of the large magnetic scrabble letter tiles, they were out of the letters I wanted so the lovely assistant put me down in the order book, great service!  I already have LOVE on the fridge and want to add LILY to it and will probably add a few more words as time goes on
Emmas at Oxford is the cutest little bookshop/giftshop and I always come away with something from there this time it was the glass jar (and next time the cute little necklace)

I would definately suggest, if you want to get out of the city and are stuck for ideas of what to do and where to go (which is quite common for us here in CHCH at the moment) head out to Rangiora or Oxford

Birthday cakes

http://nightbaking.blogspot.co.nz

I have decided to make my nieces birthday cake for her fifth birthday and she loves Tinkerbell so I have googled a few and been amazed at the cakes out there and the clever people who create them.  I have decided on a couple of ones that are just a little bit cute.  Not sure which one to make yet, maybe a combination of them all with bits of each one.

The first post!

One of my goals this year was to start a blog about all things just a little bit cute and what way to start this blog with the cutest girl in the world, my daughter Lily who is 5 months.  Just so you know she will probably feature ALOT in this blog as she discovers more of the world around her!  This was taken on her second day of starting solids when she decided to blow a raspberry!
